Review of Primal Fear (1996) by Dutch V — 01 Aug 2009
Wow, yet another stand-out performance by Edward Norton. And to think, this was his first film. The story-line is fairly easy to understand, at least to begin with. It's a bit rough in places and it soon becomes complicated in unexpected ways.
There are moments when it's hard to make sense of everything that you've just seen/ heard, but stay with it, it's definitely worth it in the end. Plus, it really is like no other film.Richard Gere is great in his role.
He holds charm and poise, and I changed my mind about him a few times as to whether or not he was a 'good' guy.Saying this, I thought the outstanding performance belonged to Edward Norton. It seems he is faultless in his acting.
I can't think of one criticism against his name, yet there are so many calls of praise. He is so engaging, and his character draws you in from the first instance we meet him. Lovable: yes. Innocent: you'll have to watch it and see.
