Review of Primal Fear (1996) by Chris B — 04 Jan 2014
A very well done film that is both a courtroom drama as well as an entertaining thriller film, Primal Fear features great performances by Richard Gere and Laura Linney but especially Edward Norton who in his debut was nominated for an Oscar for his portrayal here.
The film is very engaging and balances the courtroom professional appearance with the gritty out of court interactions between various characters and helps lend a darker tone to the film. The film's 130 minute running time uses it's time effectively and is even-paced between drama and action and never lingers in it's screenplay and is entertaining and passes the time quickly while remaining engaging.
It should be noted though that the film includes some grissly images of the murder that takes place in the beginning and heavy language in places but never let's that compensate for the well written script.
