Review of Priest (2011) by Ryan V — 18 Apr 2012
This lame genre mash-up, based on a popular manga series, surrounds a post-apocalyptic theocracy that's under siege by vampires. The human race was protected by a knights templar-like group of vampire hunters called Priests, but the coming peace has made them anachronisms.
An abduction causes one of these Priests (Paul Bettany) to publicly renounce his vows in order to rescue the victim. Other Priests are sent to capture him, but their journey leads to a stronghold of a possible vampiric resurgance.
This movie is crammed with a lot of CGI-inflected mayhem, but overall it's a boring retread of stuff done earlier and better in numerous western, anime, horror, science fiction, and action films.
