Review of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016) by Mo D — 07 Feb 2016
It's maybe best not to have your expectations so high.
It's good but if they had taken it to the R-rated level it might have been a bit edgier and slicker.
It's a neat idea though blending two different elements together; the Jane Austen story of modern feminism with a zombie apocalypse.
It's the characters that make the movie work very well even if the zombie violence isn't that frequent.
Lily James and Lena Headey are part of a modern generation of warriors against the undead.
The Bennet sisters are raised from birth to combat the undead tearing through London while also challenging the restrictions of many women are permitted to access.
The feminist ideas such as marriage is important, admiring a woman more for her strength as a fighter or resolve as a woman herself, and a woman is either trained to be refined or highly skilled.
For Elizabeth Bennet she is constantly bickering with Darcy about what's equal as well as prejudicial, Darcy himself is a bit close-minded as to whether or not the undead should stay dead to preserve the living's survival.
The love story is what you'd expect although it isn't that interesting and the rest of the Bennet sisters are sadly forgettable.
The best thing I can say is the zombie action when these women are kicking butt against hordes of the undead.
A better script and better editing could have improved things I agree but the movie still has some things going for its favor.
Just don't have very high hopes.
