Review of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016) by Nichole O — 09 Feb 2016
While better than its counterpart "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," this silly movie still suffers from the flaw that plagues all versions and iterations of Pride and Prejudice: the unlikeable character of Mr.
Darcy. I just never got how someone like Elizabeth Bennet could ever get past her frustrations with Mr. Darcy. Having a zombie apocalypse be a backdrop to this story doesn't change that. Lily James plays a sexy zombie killer, and Matt Smith steals every scene he is in.
But apart from those bright spots, the movie doesn't offer anything that can't be found in better installments of either Jane Austen or the undead. The only time it got interesting was when we got to know the zombies (yes, you read that right).
It says something about these characters if the zombies get you more interested in them than the living characters.
