Review of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016) by Paul E — 27 Feb 2016
Well, it was Pride and Prejudice meets Zombies. The problem was that it wasn't a particularly good P&P film OR a particularly good Zombie film.
P&P requires art direction that immerses us into the Victorian era, and performances that blur the line between elegance and chaos. It's not that the movie was particularly bad at this. It's just that it was no Joe Wright adaptation.
As for the zombie part, we may go on about how zombies are a commentary on consumerism, or musings on mankind in a worst-case scenario, but we all know that deep-down inside, we see these movies for the creative zombie kills. This movie just had a bunch of stabbing.
In the end, it was just another "vs" movie featuring two characters you like, but doesn't do either one justice.
