Review of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016) by Matt A — 12 May 2016
So this film happened. Why? No idea. I'm unfamiliar with the Jane Austin original so I cant really comment on differences or the tweaks that have been made to accommodate the inclusion of the zombie hordes.
But to me this feels like its a really bad adaption of fan fiction. That's not to say it doesn't have its moments, the fight scenes are pretty good. There are a handful of funny scenes, but only because of Matt Smith.
Yes, the film does have its tongue firmly placed in its cheek but its just not that funny. But what this film does wrong a lot, is not having enough gore. Its a zombie film, you should have spatters of red in most of the action scenes.
Shaun of the Dead had the right balance of comedy and gore. I wouldn't really bother with this one, unless it comes to Netflix. Don't waste your cash.
