Review of Pride and Prejudice (1940) by Karen M — 09 Oct 2007
Almost psychedelic gowns, but as funny as the BBC version (a really great slapstick last scene with Lady Catherine, that actually works). Not much chemistry between Garson & Olivier, but that's a small failing as both actors are so good (Firth definitely referenced certain parts of Olivier's performance).
I'm a big fan of Larry - have never seen him play so flighty, readable and vulnerable.
