Review of Pride and Prejudice (1940) by Lynne N — 21 Feb 2009
This is the first television version of Jane Austin's classic tale. The film's script was actually based more off of the Broadway play than a direct adaptation of Austin's book. While there are changes in the story-line, I can't find myself complaining too much because Laurence Olivier and Greer Garson bring home a top performance.
Over the years there have been several more films made, telling this same tale of 'pride and prejudice.' Some are closer to the bk than others, but all of them provide us with different angles and glimpses of these dynamic characters.
Each movie lends different interpretations of the characters and their actions. Thus, I find that I enjoy something different about each film adaptation. The only thing I don't really care for in this film is the ending!? It is too short and why may I ask do I want to see that zany mother again, when the main characters I've been pulling for through the whole movie are finally together.
..I ask you?
