Review of Pride (2014) by Benutty — 20 Oct 2014
Has the demeanor of a traditional "British gay film"--if there is such a thing, but what makes Pride stand out from the pack is its restraint in the "social issues" department. It touches on political-gay-film standards, like the looming HIV crisis, struggles of shame vs.
pride, community vs. self, etc., but never takes them too far as to complicate the larger story at hand. Lots of really, really great moments by a swarm of talented relatively unknown (at least to American audiences) performers.
