Review of Pride (2014) by Cole J — 21 Sep 2014
An uplifting and inspirational film that shows what the homosexual movement is all about. This movie will likely be a treat for audiences of any age (though old age in particular) because it's fun and celebratory. It's inspirational.
The film is unusually focused on a large number of characters, but this works well because each has a unique personality and a different take from each actor. The film is edited cohesively and seamlessly splices together their personal struggles with group efforts. From this, we get all kinds of perspective within the movement, and seeing the group succeed and struggle becomes very powerful because of this.
I don't think this is simply a "yay, gay people" film. The antagonists may be one-note and the movie certainly tries to make us feel good for being on its side, but at large, it celebrates the movement itself. The film proves, as the title suggests, that pride is what is needed for a rights movement to succeed, or for an individual. With that, this film has social importance, and should serve very well to inspire its audiences on good old-fashioned activism.
