Review of Pride (2007) by Sheik Mustafa J — 20 Jun 2008
Inspirational in the "black people can swim too" sort of way. As a person of an underprivileged minority race myself, I guess I cannot help but empathise with this sort of story, so I'm biased, I guess.
Nevertheless, I want my kids to watch this and learn that they can be great at what they do no matter what others would think that Malay-Muslims are stupid/lazy/criminal. I wish I had someone teach me and my friends this when I was young.
The most important lessons in here are to walk away from racists, no matter how much they burn you up, because you can never change them, but you can change yourself, and that wherever you come from, it's where you want to go that determines where you are now.
