Review of Pretty Woman (1991) by Danah A — 13 Nov 2012
[C+/65] Utterly preposterous and predictable fantasia involving a gold-hearted knock-out hooker finding self-fulfillment and happiness (and economic bliss) in the arms of a white knight millionaire with father issues. The kind of movie Hollywood is rightly condemned (and worshipped) for.
Nevertheless, it must be said, Pretty Woman is sometimes pretty enjoyable, and the chemistry between the leads somehow works rather well. Gere and Roberts are quite watchable, even while you're excoriating yourself for partaking in such clichéd Cinderella boondoggle. So, a kind of guilty pleasure, at least passingly. But also an awfully ridiculous concept to foist on people.
