Review of Pretty in Pink (1986) by Julius L — 08 Aug 2009
Most have pegged this movie as a poor-girl-rich-boy love story but it has always been a Duckie movie for me. Who can ever forget Jon Cryer lip-synching to Otis Redding's Try a Little Tenderness? His breakdown at TRAX after finding out that his girl friend, Andie is going out with someone whose name is a major appliance?!? After seeing this again last night, it just dawned on me that the supporting characters here have just become major Emmy contenders, namely Cryer and James Spader who played the nefarious Steff.
I also did not realize that the one who played Betty (the rich girl who bullied Andie and her friends) was played by the fifth Cyclon, Kate Vernon. One of her rich friends was also played by Gina Gershon.
Just like in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Kristy Swanson plays another memorable cameo. I also did not realize that it was Andrew 'Dice' Clay played the bouncer from CATS. The soundtrack still rocks.
