First of all, did you ever notice that daddy Stanton says "when was last time I told you that you're beautiful?" right when his daughter is bending over and he's staring at her ass?

My main concern with this movie, and probably why I never watched it before, is that it's like looking in the funhouse mirror. Relating to characters in movies is usually a fun experience, But Duckie just points out the most embarrassing parts. Aside from the obnoxious '80s style, I understand a little too much. The self depricating sense of humor, the expressive music, the pining for the lifelong redhead friend. The failure.

The best part of the concept (aside from Annie Potts, who needs to be on top of me always) is that the bane of Duckie's existence is actually a nice guy. It's too cliche to have someone give an asshole a try and then go back to the safety net dick-in-a-box of the friend. What we get here is a more complex environment where the audience is torn between who to root for.

Side note: Did people in the '80s really all wear sport coats and vests to high school? Even the rich kids in my high school weren't trying that hard.
