Review of Pretty Baby (1978) by Ricardo Z — 17 Jul 2011
Louis Malle might do daring, warning, unethical and controversial things, but is clearly obvious the message he is trying to say with this film; How can the environment change in a negative and harmful way the rising and education of a 12 year-old girl growing in a Burdel(or in any place where sex, alcohol and violence is shown every day).
The attitudes the outstanding Brooke Shields play were just perfect:Rude,bad-mannered,promiscuous,and also a mask of 'mature child'(where she shows how she is psychologically affected). Perfect to show the audience the harmful a child can grow in that kind of environment.
The acting by Susan Sarandon and Kaith Carridine, beside I already said the shocking interpretation of Brooke Shields(specially because she appeared naked so young)were just fabulous, the movie itself is beautifully directed and so well writen, the scenenography was something to admire and the courage of the director to show a movie like this in the 70's is just something to admire.5 stars movie''.
