Review of Pretty Baby (1950) by Flike S — 02 Jan 2010
With wonderful photography from Nykvist and delicate and thorough direction from Malle, we see something that is quite humane and tragic. Malle has somewhat of a history with taboo material, such as "Murmur of the Heart", where an incestious situation ends almost on a comedic note.
While having some lighter moments, Malle seemed to leave most of the comedy behind with "Pretty Baby", and although it's "controversy" may set some astray, it's still a worthwhile piece of cinema.
