Review of Presumed Innocent (1990) by Daniel K — 30 Mar 2010
2: It definitely feels a bit like a companion piece to Frantic, which makes sense, as they're on the same disc, have the same star, and come from around the same time. It's an interesting film, more because it shows how much has changed in the past twenty years than for any other reason.
A film like this would never get green lighted today. It's a fairly dry and straightforward genre piece. It is reasonably entertaining, but I wasn't invested enough in the characters to really be drawn into the story.
The twist at the end did catch me a bit off guard, but it didn't even come close to shocking me. Comparing this to a film like Fracture, which has a somewhat similar plot and shares many of the same genre traits, is very illustrative of what's changed in the business.
Entertaining enough, but I can easily see why it has been largely forgotten.
