Review of Premium Rush (2012) by Durell B — 07 Apr 2013
Fast & Furious on bikes with a lame plot and terrible Disney Channel movie score. Nothing in Premium Rush was plausible. Joseph Gordon Levitt plays a bike messenger who picks up a "hot" package and goes on a city wide flee from a cop who needs what the package contains.
It is never explained or a good enough reason is never provided as to why Levitt risks his life for this package. The whole concept is a waste because its not believable that a person would continue running with a package having no idea what it is, especially if it risks your life.
Furthermore, once you find out the person chasing you is a cop, who in their right mind would keep up an unnecessary manhunt. NYPD would never act in such a childish manner when it comes to off the books activity.
Premium Rush needed a believable plot making it necessary for the protagonist to allude those chasing him. If it were the mafia or random low life then at least there would be justification not to hand over package, but cops being the pursuer does not work.
I would prefer to sleep on Saturday than recommend this as a watchable film. A terrible ending. I should never feel sympathy for the corrupt cop but I do. In the end his motives were wrong but were not nearly as bad as the tactics used to get rid of him.
Disappointing film and one that should have been direct-to-dvd.
