Review of Predator (1987) by Chris B — 30 May 2012

Let me start by saying that along with the Rambo (1-3), Terminator 1 & 2, Alien films, the first two Predator films hold a special place in my film viewing experience. They have a nostalgic feel as I was between 5-13 and was watching these way before I "should" have been, usually at early morning hours with my friend since second grade, Bradley Hughes. These memories are some of my most treasured and always will be, hopefully Brad feels the same. Although I have viewed all these films many times and rated them I am going to actually write reviews for them all as well. For "Promethus" coming out in a little over a week I wanted Danielle to see all the related films before and having gone through the four Alien films, we moved to Predator next before the AVP films.

With all that aside, "Predator" isn't the perfect film I used to view it as. The acting isn't that good, no new territory explored besides the predator itself but it is a fun and creepy film nonetheless. The effects, while dated, hold up way better than most other 80s films and are sparsely used. The makeup and costumes, especially the predators, are detailed and well done and the film keeps the suspense and momentum constantly moving. While "Predator" isn't a masterpiece on the same scale as "Alien" or "Aliens" it certainly is a fun and scary suspense-filled film loaded with nostalgia!
