Review of Predator (1987) by Richard D — 09 Feb 2013
John McTiernan rightfully gets a lot of credit for revolutionizing the action film with "Die Hard", which combined elements from a few different types of films and really stripped them down to their simplest elements.
He had already done something like this the previous year with "Predator", which takes the characters from a "men on a mission" kind of war film and drops them into a horror film and lets the action play out with very little frills.
The result is extremely masculine and extremely satisfying. Stallone tried top recapture some of the atmosphere of this film in "The Expendables 2" and really didn't succeed.
