It's hard to rate the movie accurately because I read the book. I really liked the book, and the movie definitely does not disappoint. It has the same great tone, and the alternate feelings of horror, hope, despair, and triumph.
I think some of the fantasy sequences may not convey the escape that Precious creates for herself, and there are other small issues like that that I'm not sure work as well in the movie as the book, however, it's hardly the fault of a 2 hours movie that it can't fit in all of the nuances of the book.
In any event, this movie was a great tribute to a fantastic book.
