Review of Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire (2009) by Sherry H — 10 Feb 2011
Actually not as depressing or heartbreaking as I had anticipated, but still quite an intense, emotionally stirring experience. For me, however, the fantasy daydream sequences detracted from the gritty rawness of such a bleak, realistic story.
As a viewer, I just wish the direction and editing hadn't been so intrusive. Acting performances by an ensemble cast were praiseworthy across the board, which is practically demanded in order to do the subject matter justice.
