Social pornography at it's worst - Precious explodes with racial self-loathing and ridiculous melodrama. For a film that tries to make you cry, it ends up being quite laughable as Daniels throws everything at the audience just to see what sticks.
The performances are great but even after all the horrible events we see the protaginist overcome, we are not informed of her character but merely witness to her exploitation. Precious is a grim tale of abuse and inner-city life that unfortunately doesn't live up to all the hype.
Well-acted trash.
