Fair. The emotional, inspirational storyline of living in poverty is the film's strength, but so much more could have been done to elevate this storyline from just average to a truly stirring tour de force.
Good:
+ very believable, true-to-life characters, setting/scene, script.
+ good acting.
+ effective cinematography.
Bad:
- Precious' dreaming sequences are periodically inserted into the storyline; these come across as cheesy/corny and only serve to devalue the plot.
- only very few scenes were truly emotionally-touching and very dramatic; adding more emotion/drama to other scenes would make the film so much more powerful than as it stands.
