Review of Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire (2009) by Ruth L — 11 Feb 2012
I have not watched something so upsetting for a long time. At it's heart 'Precious' is a movie about overcoming the worst life had to throw at you, and while you may not ever be everything you wished, you can at least be happy.
However, it is extremely hard to look past the dark and horrific physical and emotional abuse. The single line, written on a piece of paper, 'Why Me?', drove me to tears. Heartbreakingly acted by Sidibe, and a standout performance from Mo'Nique, made this a film well worth the 2 hours.
Definitely one to watch.
