Review of Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire (2009) by Joshua T — 27 Feb 2012
This movie did not do it for me. The acting is contrived and one sided and when the mother seeks redemption, we don't believe she is genuine. Precious is a rookie actress and it shows. Her performance is not bad but it was nothing special.
The story is way over the top and the movie goes souly for emotion and there is no higher meaning other then "don't worry, you'll get through it" This girl goes everything imagineable and by the end the only thing that really gets resolved is she begins to get educated.
The other aspects that she has to get over are not presented, or presented weakly. And contrary to belief the book was not based on a true story. Not worth a best picture nomination.
