Although the subject matter is lurid in the extreme, acting wunderkind Gabourey Sidibe, (who deserved an Oscar for her fearless and flawless performance), completely immerses herself in her role. Daniels forces his risky cast, including Carey, Kravitz and Mo'Nique to give the best performances of the year and of most of their careers, (I feel like Kravitz might just surprise the hell out of us in the future) as characters that are sympathetic and characters that infuriate.
A real, dirty, gritty and cruel story with a loving rock at it's center in actress Sidibe. This is an original film that will become a renound classic in years to come.
