Review of Powder Blue (2009) by David Ray G — 19 Jul 2009
Human drama we've seen many times before in many other forms, just not as far-stretched or lyrically. It's a movie that can move you, but ultimately it adds nothing new and it's deeply flawed. Too many things needed more attention as they were surreal, and many things could have been done differently.
Forest Whitaker is as good as he always is and I'm guilty to admitting that I actually liked Swayze's performance -an actor I have such contempt for. Jessica Biel is better than some Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but she's still quite talentless. The direction (among other elements) is tolerable, and is overall a movie that attempts to make you sympathetic and pitiful, more than it attempts to rejoice in the power hidden in the human heart.
