Review of Powder Blue (2009) by Gabriel K — 01 Apr 2013
A drama following the difficult lives os several Los Angeles inhabitants: a grieving widower, a shy mortician, a lap dancer with a child in a coma and a terminally ill ex-con intersect in an unfriendly city. We get to see their situations and their reactions to guilt, pain and sorrow. There are several cameo roles, Kris Kristofferson as a mafia man, Lisa Kudrow as a dinner waitress and Patrick Swayze as a owner of night club-in his last appearance in a film.
It is a movie with certain originality, it is well built and acted, however there are some loose ends: why is the boy in a coma? what makes the mortician so shy? where is the connection between Forest Whittaker's character and Jessica Biel's story?
Plus, for some reason this is advertised as a thriller, I don't think that is right, there is a gangster and a gun but there are not chases or shootings. This is indeed a journey through the human soul, painful but with a good chance of redemption.
