Review of Pottersville (2017) by M E — 18 Nov 2017

I've read several professional reviews that were negative about this film but as a local to upstate NY, I was able to see this film in Hamilton, NY where it was filmed & screened last week and I don't think the reviews I read did the film justice.

I have been a big fan of just about all the actors in this film and am really excited to see it again on dvd or streaming.

It was a refreshing 'holiday' film because for once, I feel like I'm not watching some studio executive's attempt to try and swindle some money out of me. It's a family friendly, funny look into small town living. It was entertaining. I'm not to sure why all the negativity other than most reviewers expect things to be a certain way, like the movie poster. I actually thought it was funny the way all the characters are on the poster, it's rare they do that, it's usually just one big mega million dollar film actor and this film was different. That's what I liked about it and others I talked to in the audience, a real audience of Hamilton folks.

It's not what you think it will be. That's what made it so fun and entertaining - it was like a breath of fresh air. And the character of Maynard played by Michael Shannon was really amazing. He can play villains to a small town shop owner with such conviction that throughout the film, I really believed that this guy was bewildered by what he created. And it was fun with the reality TV star flies in on the helicopter to chase the bigfoot. I should say all the characters were believable and all played key roles, no matter how big or small. Again, it was an entertaining escape from the normal hollywood movies they keep churning out year after year.

I was happy to see this in the movie theater with friends, it was a fun experience.
