Review of Potiche (1983) by Luci O — 30 Jun 2011
This is a very enjoyable comedy where Hillary Clinton, er Catherine Deneuve, stars as a former trophy wife turned political leader. The humour is intelligent and plays on the level of the script, but also on the visual spectacle, referencing the sexual politics of the time as well as its vivid colour schemes with tongue-in-cheek aplomb.
The plot is amusing and entertaining, Deneuve simply magnificent and also in the joke as the factory her husband runs produces umbrellas. Ozon is a surprising director as his style seems to change seamlessly and consistently with great success.
