Review of Postman (1995) by Jean-Sébastien L — 29 Apr 2009
One of the biggest problems with this movie is that it has no sense of geography, no sense of place. It seems to take one or two days to travel by foot or by horse from town to town, when I would think it should take weeks.
How does one town that just ekes out a living for its citizens have electric Christmas lights for a dance? Where does the zipline running from the top of the dam actually go?? Who set it up, without the infrastructure of modern society? Where did Bethlehem's men get their endless supplies of ammunition? On top of that, Costner's performance was particularly wooden, and the editing didn't fit the subject matter.
There were odd fades and cuts in unusual places. The core idea was interesting (I enjoyed the book), the movie just didn't hold together.
