I don't think it's as bad as it's been made out to be, although I can understand to an extent why it got bad reviews. It is pretty sappy and dumb in some parts, the glorification of the mail system is kind of strange, and the performances really aren't anything special.
Still, I think Kevin Costner got a little bit of a raw deal with this movie, it's decent.
