Review of Postman (1995) by Robin D — 14 Jun 2009
A cool idea that was way too drawn out to be that interesting. Many of the moments that were supposed to feel heartfelt and important came off somewhat comical to me. For example, when one little girl started singing "America the Beautiful", punching her in the face was the only way that I think the scene could have been saved.
Costner's pansy "I don't want to fight" character in The Postman ended up pissing me off mostly. So far from all the movies of Costner's that I've seen, I just haven't been impressed.
But, I have yet to see Dances with the Wolves or Field of Dreams so I guess I haven't seen his best work yet. Anyway, I think the movie would have benefited from more action, a better and shorter love story, and a lot more attitude.
