Review of Postman (1995) by Terry A — 20 Dec 2011
Suspend your disbelief; peel back the layers of scathing reviews and hate for Kevin Costner, and you will see that this movie is not as dreadful as critics make it out to be. Its indulgent, cheesy, absurd, and long, but its also entertaining, suspenseful, and emotional.
Also, the acting is surprisingly good. At its core, The Postman is a heart-tugging, thought-provoking story about the capacity for courage and compassion that lies within us all. This movie demonstrates (in a delightfully over-the-top way) how an ordinary idea (even something that began as a joke) can grow into a symbol of hope that people get behind and are even willing to die for.
After all, that is how America started.
