Review of Postman (1995) by Dale R — 01 Jan 2013
I enjoyed the Postman. The post-apocalyptic story was interesting and nearly every portion of the film, from production design and costuming, neatly embraced the apocalyptic feel. But the acting was quite poor, mainly from Kevin Costner, and the screenplay was cluttered and overly long to the point that you could feel yourself begging Costner to defeat the bad guys because you knew he would anyways. And the ending lacked a grand conclusion to firmly imbed the message on the audience. The message was there and as clear as it could be, but reduce how long it takes to get to the end of the film and you would have something more memorable.
The Postman is a good film but well short of an epic film, though it could've been if not for its obvious weaknesses.
