Review of Postal (2007) by Brad G — 08 Sep 2008
I cannot believe it but I actually enjoyed an Uwe Boll movie. Maybe it's because he didn't take this too seriously and it was meant to be funny, because his other films should have been funny because of how horrible they were, but still weren't.
Maybe comedy is his true medium. I found myself laughing often, even though it is still a very stupid film. Ridiculous violence, cheesy lines, over-the-top social commentary...it somehow works in this.
And Zack Ward is perfect for it. He does a very good job of keeping a straight face during a crazy and inane plot. But, I could've gone the rest of my life without seeing full frontal nudity from Dave Foley.
Not sure why that was in there. Also, the action is handled well and is funnier when it is more ridiculously brutal. I doubt a film will ever top the amount of onscreen children killed by stray gunfire.
Oh, and check out the bonus features where Boll literally fights his critics, which is damn funny when you think about it.
