Review of Possum (2018) by Caribou_Goo — 01 Nov 2021
The movie sets out first and foremost to play on the fear of isolation from society. It accomplishes this masterfully with it's bleak atmosphere and awkward interactions.
Second it invites the viewer to ostracize and judge the main character to make a commentary on societies view of mental illness.
The actual story is riddled with ambiguity and absurdity and it works because it's primarily a vehicle for the above two purposes. It absolutely is an ungrounded experience that creeps along before becoming a complete fever dream in the final 30 minutes. That's not gonna be for everyone.
