Review of Possession (1987) by Courtney W — 26 Jan 2005
I made the mistake of reading the book twice before I saw the movie, and so was severely disappointed when I saw the movie the first time. They left a lot out, and while the movie is not bad when viewed without the material, if you've read the book, they really only encapsulate about 2 chapters total. It's depressing. .
Gwyneth Paltrow is lovely as Maud Bailey, and Aaron Eckhart... well, he's cute and all, but no. Although I suppose my view might be slightly scued after viewing The Core ;) ... .
The story between Christabel La Motte and Randolph Ash is not as nearly developed as I would have hoped. Perhaps it is because there is such a lack of the poetry and all that passed between them in the book... I am not particularly sure. Maybe it's simply because I miss everything that's missing totally. .
In any case, it's a very nice movie - but the book is better. ;) .
