Review of Poseidon (2006) by Zack S — 03 Sep 2010
Haven't seen the original Poseidon film so I can't judge this based on that, but this film makes me want to see the original because it was a really great movie. Disaster films have been done to death so to speak so we have gotten movies about a sinking or capsized boat like Titanic or The Perfect Storm (which the guy who directed The Perfect Storm also directs this film). This disaster movie was a really intense and entertaining movie to sit through and enjoy.
Hands down, the special effects are what this movie is all about. Groundbreaking CGI really made this film as awesome as it is, and you really feel like these people are really on a boat and on one that capsizes . You will eventually realize that it is all special effects but you can't help but feel that they are real. The intensity of this film will also keep you on the edge of your seat not knowing which characters are going to live or die because anything can happen. I usually can guess who is going to live or die in a disaster film, but I never expected a couple characters to die. (Without giving it away). The cast was outstanding, all the starpower you can find and they all really delivered. It surprised me that most people thought the acting was bad because I thought the acting was decent and the dialogue was not that bad either.
Great disaster flick to watch on a peaceful Saturday night with the Surround Sound blasting. This movie is intense throughout and the special effects make it worth seeing.
