Review of Poseidon (2006) by Tiff D — 20 May 2011
"We've been hit by a rogue wave, they're rare but they're deadly.".
An explosive blast of a good time that will hit you with the force of a tsunami. Director Wolfgang Petersen's (Troy, The Perfect Storm) remake of the Poseidon Adventure is inferior to the original, but superior when it comes to blazingly intense action sequences and jaw-dropping special effects. It's literally a nonstop and perilous action adventure that's jampacked with spectacular suspense and stunning thrills. Yes it has bad acting and a cheesy story, but Peteren has crafted a tribute to just how far special effects have come since the early 70's when the original film was a hit. A visual blast of searing intensity, a violent and shocking endeaver, a pulse-pounder and a completely harmless and pure form of entertainment that I thoroughly enjoyed throughout. It's the disaster scene in "Titanic" on steroids. Another great film from Wolfgang Petersen and company.
The cast does a decent job of holding your attention through all of the chaos. Kurt Russell, Josh Lucas, Richard Dreyfuss and Jacinda Barett all do a decent job.
