With the 100-year anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic and the tons of ship catastrophe documentaries following it, I became interested into the physics that keep the ship afloat considering its mass.

I must have missed the remake when it came out in 2006 and now I stumbled upon it on TV while zapping. I refused to believe that only the couple of people who disobeyed the captain and decided to find their own way out could survive.

So, to state my motivation to watch the film, I wanted to find out how the remaining crowd planned on leaving the upside-down lying ship when (if) help arrived. I haven't seen the original. Although there were many ridiculous parts in the movie, I can really name a few positive aspects.

I liked how, in the beginning, the movie quickly introduced the relevant characters. The acting was well enough to carry the story. The story kept you involved with the characters and had the right level of supense and action.

The effects were quite good. I guess the main problem I had was that some scenes just seemed totally implausible. Like the boy opening the ventilation window with the little cross. Sometimes, I also had the feeling the there were inconsistencies regarding the water levels from one scene to another.

All in all, the movie doesn't try to to be more than it is and serves the entertainment purpose well. Can't be too harsh with it.
