Review of Population 436 (2006) by Dennis R — 26 Jun 2007
For eons, the population of a small town called Rockwell Falls has stayed at a constant 436 so the census board sends one of their goons down to check it out and he gets into a fair bit of trouble (as you do when you go to check out peculiar occurrences alone).
Yet another show making out little secluded towns to be deviant for being cut off from the rest of the world and not taking on board "big city" laws and values. I liked how the townspeople were not all portrayed as crazy or blindly obedient.
The hardware store owner and his fever-stricken son were beautifully crafted characters! I thought the census idiot was a bit of a dick, betraying the only real friend he had in the town and twice no less! He was also not very smart in the sense that he kept stopping for all sorts of things (why not stop for tea and have a bath while you`re at it asshole) instead of making a break for it and bringing in the Calvary later.
It was hard for me to even root for his successful escape.
