Review of Population 436 (2006) by Balaji B — 05 Sep 2007
Given its low budget, acting resources not very popular, and the plot which you can predict in the first few minutes, this movie would appear to be a pale shadow of the nicolas cage starrer "The wicker man".
The fact that the movie was directed by a X-Files veteran clearly shows in the style of film-making. The movie has a theme which has been explored by several movies..people imprisoning themselves with religious fanaticism and superstitious beliefs.
With all its limitations, the movie still works for me and in fact I consider this one far superior to the Nicolas Cage starrer. Though the theme could have been expanded in a more intriguing setting, population 436 is still worth a watch for the suspense genre fans.
