Review of Population 436 (2006) by Brian C — 07 Dec 2010
Some movies are 'Citizen kane'. Some movies are not.
But that has nothing to do with Population/436. This clever little thriller concerns a small town called Rockwell Falls. Population is 436.
Mr Cane works for the census beureau and wants to know why the population of the town hasn't changed in over 100 years. He investigates, and finds all sorts of strange things. The people act a little odd. Strangers can't leave. Some people get 'the fever' and come back as different people. And in the school they have ritualistic chants.
I really want to go into the details of this character piece, but that would really ruin it. But this movie has it all (for a bloodless horror)...great characters, a cool mystery, numerology, satanism, religious fanatacism, lobotomies...and fresh blueberry pie. The reason for 436 is worth the price of rental alone.
Jeremy Sitso is in this movie. He is a pretty decent, but relatively unheard of actor. He was the star of Wrong Turn and May...two other great movies.
And also stars Fred Durst...yep...Mister Limp Bizkit. I hate to admit it, but he did ok for this role. Good character...well acted. Now I am not saying he is a good actor...just that this role suited his retarded stare.
And the lady star of this movie...well she looked like a cross between Jennifer Connely and Rose McGowan. Pretty damn nice, I say.
Anyway, check this movie out. Pretty decent plot...some minor holes. Good mystery and like I said...great characters with a spooky undertone.
