Review of Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping (2016) by N R — 22 Jun 2016
Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping may not revolutionize the mockumentary genre, but the men of The Lonely Island bring an energy to this film that is infectious. Whether it is through the hilariously outrageous songs that were written just for this film (if you haven't seen their video for "Finest Girl" yet, do yourself a favour and look it up), or the many quips about the music industry today, the film never loses steam.
When one joke doesn't land, you're hit immediately with another. There is little that is novel about the story, but it isn't attempting to tell something new, it is parodying the many concert movies that already exist, and lambast them it does.
I was consistently laughing, something I can't say about a lot of today's comedies. The film won't be for everyone, as this really does just feel like an extended Lonely Island video, so if you aren't a fan of their previous work, this won't be for you.
I, however, will definitely be watching this one again when I need a night in. 4 out of 5 stars.
