Review of Pootie Tang (2001) by Renée W — 21 Nov 2008
This movie is badly acted, directed, stupid and cheap looking. but it has itâ??s moments when it is actually funny and original. The best scenes in this movie involve the character dirt mcgirt.
The film is based on a running skit that was n the chris rock show about a rap superstar who speaks in non-sensical words that nost of us t home could not understand but it seemed like everyone else could and saw him as the ultimate cool guy.
In this movie he is a chart topping rapper amd role model who is then taken down by the man because he doesnâ??t want to advertise for cigarettes and alcohol. then his return back to the top.
I am actually surprised at how many talented people are in this film itâ??s like in every scene there is a popular stand-up comedian. so you would figure the movie would be better at least funnier but this film is a stunning disappointment. itâ??s like a all star disaster movie like the towering inferno or airport except there is no disaster in this film except for the script. considering there are so many comedic films that he been inproved from the traditional script by just letting the comedians riff and improv there scenes movies such as anchorman, accepted, talladega nights. you would figure the filmmakers of this film would have had the same idea but theu didnâ??t.
This film has actuallt become a sort of cult film good for it but it is still not in my library and if it is on cable I watch for a few minutes but I probably would never watch the whole thing again.
