Review of Ponyo (2008) by Clem666 — 08 Sep 2021
'Ponyo' shows off what Miyazaki does at his best: great animation, moving and touching story, compelling scenario allowing a second look about societal issues as a grown-up, attractive characters, complex universe, an incredible feeling of indescribable magic, amazing colors, perfect pace, interesting soundtrack and amazing finale.
The atmosphere of a small town in Japan is terrific. The innocence of children is marvelously well depicted. Links between characters are deep and intricated without being overwhelming nor headaching.
The movie takes it time to set its environment and characters without rushing and witnessing such a calmness and serenity is a true delight in the contemporary cinematic landscape.
