Review of Pontypool (2009) by Shane W — 21 Aug 2009
This claustrophobic and haunting piece of magic is one of two of the best horror films of 2009 thus far. The other being Sam Raimi's "Drag Me To Hell". I patiently waited a year and a half for this and it truly did not disappoint.
Director Bruce McDonald has created a creepy and eerie cinematic near masterpiece of Canadian film. The small cast (Stephen McHattie in particular) do a fine job of selling the story which could easily have come off as cheesy and ludicrous.
Suffice it to say this little gem deserves wide recognition as an original work in a time of tired retreads and remakes. I'm definitely going to pick up Tony Burgess' novel "Pontypool Changes Everything" which is the source material for this incredible film.
I highly recommend this to horror fans desperately looking for something fun, exciting and different.
